Healthy Skin Tips for the Winter

Standard

The change of season can bring a lot of changes to our skin.  Even if we usually have what is considered  “good skin” it could be just as challenging to keep it healthy during the cold and windy wintertime. No matter what the weather is like we can enjoy healthy skin any time of year with the proper care. Here are some tips I follow that will keep your skin as healthy as possible!

During the summer the air is usually moist and our skin tends to have a natural glow. However during the winter, there is less moisture in the air, and the heating systems in our homes, cars and places of work can dehydrate the skin. No matter what time of year it is both women and men should have a simple but effective skin care routine to keep our largest organ healthy and younger looking. The winter season is definitely a time to be more on point with our skincare regimens to avoid dry, flaky and chapped skin.

WINTER SKIN CARE TIPS:

Tip # 1: Stay Hydrated

In the summertime it’s natural to automatically drink more water/fluids. It has happened to me that in the winter my water intake drops dramatically because it’s cold and I do not get “thirsty”. Everyone’s personal water intake varies according to weight and activity level but as a general amount we should aim to drink about 2-3 Liters (10-12 cups) of water a day. Even if we do not really feel like drinking water on a chilly day something I personally do during the cold season is drink room temperature water with a spritz of mango or cranberry Herbal Aloe concentrate or add a scoop of Herbalife Skin Collagen Beauty Booster. Another way I get in my daily water intake is by drinking 2-3 cups of warm or hot Herbal Tea which is also another great way to stay hydrated.

Tip #2: Moisturize Your Lips

Having chapped lips in winter can be very painful! When our lips are not moisturized and exposed to cold temperatures and the wind, they dry up and crack making it harder for any lip color stay in place and look good in the case of us ladies; in the case of the gentlemen, even though they do not use color on their lips it also just does not look too good when the lips are flaky! It’s important to protect our lips with a moisturizing balm or facial lotion that includes SPF.

Tip #3:  Use a Daily Facial Moisturizer and Sunscreen

Most people are not aware that even though its cold  outside the sun’s UV rays can still harm us, therefore sun protection is essential!  Using a moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated is important but to protect ourselves from the sun’s rays we do need to add a sunscreen on top or use a moisturizing sunscreen. On a daily basis I personally use the Herbalife SKIN Daily Glow Moisturizer and/or the Herbalife SKIN™ Protective Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen before I start my day. For the evening, I use the Herbalife SKIN Replenishing Night Cream.  It is rich and it gives me that long term moisture that is needed to help the skin heal and recover while I sleep.

Tip #4: Remember to Moisturize your Hands too.

The skin on our hands is thin, delicate and can also get dry and chapped in the cold weather. Keeping them moisturized with a hand cream is super important. Also we should remember to constantly reapply it throughout the day especially after washing our hands or doing the dishes. I keep an Herbal Aloe Hand and Body Lotion in my bathroom, one next to my kitchen sink, one in my car and one in by purse or bag to quickly grab some and re-moisturize wherever I go. Also always try to remember wearing gloves – not only do they keep us warm, but they protect our hands from harsh effects of the cold environment as well!

Tip #5: Change your Skin Care Routine Based on the Season

Our skin care can change drastically between seasons, especially if  we live in an areas with extreme temperature fluctuations between summer and winter like here in NY. During the summer it’s scorching outside but the majority of offices, trains, buses and schools are with the air conditioners on full blast; while on the other hand, in the winter it is super cold and windy outside but inside the homes, offices and trains they have the heating at it’s max level. So the drastic cold/hot changes can take a toll on our skin. Everyone is different and only we know how our skin responds in those environments. In the winter I use the Soothing Aloe Cleanser followed by the moisturizers I mentioned previously and the in the summer, I switch it up to the Polishing Citrus cleanser followed by the same moisturizers to make sure I treat my skin with what it needs according to the season.

These are just a few winter skin care tips I can share with you based on my personal experience. The Herbalife Outer Nutrition has been a great solutions to my skin care needs. Healthy Home Cooking Saves You Time & Money!

Standard

For many years my husband and I had the habit of buying food outside on a daily basis to supposedly “save time”. We used to spend at least $25 a day on a home delivered food or stopping by a restaurant for lunch and when we came to see not only where we spending a crazy amount of money on a monthly basis but we were also not having the results we wanted. A salad or a “healthy meal” in a restaurant can easily be more than 800-1000 calories because of the ingredients and how it’s prepared.

Like us most people have had the thought that cooking at home is too time consuming but we learned that preparing food at home has a double purpose. First, you save time because you can prepare enough to eat afterwards and second, you definitely get more for your money because with the same $75 we used to spend on 3 lunch outings we had enough ingredients to make lunch meals for the week.

If you are concerned that you don’t have time to prepare quick healthy meals here are a few tips that can help you:

Print out or write in a notebook 10-12 quick and easy recipes that you’d like to have handy especially for when you haven’t had a chance to think about what to make and need a quick solution

Make sure to have plenty of ingredients on hand. I always make sure my freezer and refrigerator is stocked with fruits, vegetables, nuts and lean proteins like chicken breasts, fish, eggs or shrimp. Also I make sure to always have healthy staples like tuna, beans, tomato sauce, quinoa, brown rice etc. Some spices I like to have ready to use are, pink Himalayan salt, ground pepper, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, vinegar, cinnamon, cumin, cilantro etc. These spices help give great flavor to foods without the extra calories or additives like MSG found in other seasoning powders.

Take advantage of convenient pre-washed / pre-packaged foods like salad greens, and vegetables. In most supermarkets or wholesale foods stores they sell inexpensive boxes of baby spinach, baby lettuce; mixed greens and bags of pre-cut vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, green beans, etc. These are a great time saver and all you have to do is throw  them into the pan, steamer or even just straight onto your plate.

Cook one big pot, eat a few times. If you’re preparing chicken or fish with some quinoa or brown rice for dinner, make enough for you and the family and some extra to use for later or the following day. When I prepare a pot of brown rice I usually make enough to last 2-3 days. As long as it is properly stored it will stay fresh and taste just as great as when freshly made.

Aside from these healthy meals, we have been incorporating the Herbalife Nutrition Products to our daily meal plan for the past 12 years! We love it because it takes out the guess work of what to have for breakfast and or lunch/dinner therefore it saves us time since it’s to quick and simple to prepare and it provides us with all the nutrients our body needs! Combining this along with the healthy home cooked meals we have been able to transform our bodies and we continue working for our next results!
